Thank you to everyone who joined us last Thursday night at Angry Orchard for Honoring The Hands. More than 100 guests (plus quite a few little ones) joined us for lawn games, pizza, s’mores roasting and cider tasting to help us honor Minkus Family Farms and Wallkill Valley Health Coalition for their work to ensure the health of our communities. The event raised more than $33,000 for Sun River Health’s Agricultural Workers’ Health Fund.
Sun River Health sees more than 10,000 Agricultural Workers and their families each year. The focus of this year’s event was caring for agricultural workers and their families, both in terms of their everchanging medical needs, and educational and enrichment opportunities that they may not otherwise experience. For farmworker families, summer months pose an added challenge with regard to their children. The long workday of farmworkers results in a critical need for a safe place for children to spend their days – we are proud to partner with the Warwick Area Farmworker Organization which focuses on this need through their Dulce Esperanza summer program.

On Thursday, November 3rd, Sun River Health hosted it’s annual gala, Cornucopia, at Ziegfeld Ballroom. The event honored Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office and Fishkill Farms for their incredible support of Sun River Health and their commitment to the health of our communities.
Cornucopia raised over $520,000 to support the comprehensive primary and preventive health care services that Sun River Health provides to more than 250,000 people in need throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island.
This year’s benefit including a fun mirror photo booth, Champagne serving dress and awe-inspiring duel aerialist act in addition to the fun LED CYR wheel performance to kick off the second half of our night.
The evening also featured a special event-night fundraising focus on Women’s Health – highlighting the importance of quality medical care for the 25,000 women who turn to us each year for annual check-ups, famly planning and prenatal care. Funds will support the expansion of these programs to assist more people in the communities we serve.

Sun River Health hosted and participated in long-established Juneteenth Freedom Celebrations throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island to bring communities together, highlight the central role of the four African American mothers who founded the organization in the early 1970s, and support Sun River Health’s ongoing, mission-driven work in equitable health care.
“Juneteenth is a central day for us, our communities, and the patients we serve,” said Rev. Jeannette J. Phillips, Sun River Health Founder and EVP of Community Development. “We can trace a clear line from the first Juneteenth in 1865, to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to the founding of our first health center in 1975, to our work today at Sun River Health. Bringing health care to everyone, no matter the color of their skin, is truly a part of what liberation means.”

On Sunday, May 1st, a team of 6 riders for Sun River Health participated in the TD 5 Boro Bike tour, a car free ride through New York City. The riders raised more than $8,600 together to support increased access to healthcare for our patients throughout New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.
