Heat Wave
The National Weather Service is forecasting dangerous heat conditions across New York State through Monday, July 25. This includes extremely high temperatures and high humidity levels, especially during the afternoon into the early evening hours.
During a heat wave, there is a possibility of higher rates of heat-related illnesses, such as dehydration, heat stroke, and complications from heart and lung disease.
To stay safe, turn on your air conditioner at home or go to locations that are air-conditioned, like a mall, library, or supermarket. You can also use window shades or sheets to block the sunlight from coming in your windows.
You can also visit an official cooling center to find air conditioning. Use the NYSDOH Cooling Center Locator to find one at: https://apps.health.ny.gov/statistics/environmental/public_health_tracking/tracker/#/CCMap.
