A half-century of care

In the early 1970s, four African American women looked out at their community and witnessed a lack of nearby, affordable, quality health care and decided to do something about it. With seed money from a small federal grant, the first Hudson River Health Care center was born in 1975.

Recently, Hudson River Health Care and Brightpoint Health have merged to become Sun River Health. Today, what began as a single center almost a half-century ago, is now a network of over 43 health centers serving more than 245,000 patients throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island.

That health center has since grown into a network of over 40 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island. The network’s exceptional primary care practitioners, specialists, and support staff have made it a destination for affordable, high-quality care. In December 2018, Brightpoint Health, an FQHC network offering integrated medical, behavioral, and social support services in New York City, merged with Hudson River Health Care. Together with our subsidiary organizations, we rebranded as Sun River Health in 2020.
